‘Big Papa’
14” x 10”, ink on archival paper
The artwork Big Papa is a heartfelt tribute to my dear friend, Marco Anibal Ulloa Gordillo—my wife’s father and a devoted caretaker of his grandkids. His unwavering presence and wise words helped shape the person I am today. May he rest in peace.
In this piece, Big Papa stands as he always did—smiling, grounded, and strong. The river symbolizes life’s journey, flowing endlessly, while the trees represent humanity, with one standing as family. A halo encircles his head, holding images of his children and their families, gazing at him with love and recognition.
This piece honors his life and the family who cherishes him every day. Marco was a victim of COVID-19. August 8, 1944 – March 28, 2020.
